Stainless Steel

The Brown-Firth research laboratory in Sheffield, England, is most commonly credited as the "inventor" of stainless steel, a metal primarily used as a heat resisting or corrosion resisting material. Listed below are all 4 groups of stainless steel:

  • Austenitic Stainless Steel
  • Ferritic Stainless Steel
  • Martensitic Stainless Steel
  • Precipitation Hardened (PH) Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is utilized in the aeronautic and marine industries due to their resistance to corrosion and high temperature oxidation.  This metal type also can maintain its mechanical properties over a wide range of temperatures.

Metals Unlimited North, a stainless steel supplier, provides all mill forms including stainless steel sheet, strip, plate, foil, round bar, square bar, flat bar, hex bar, tube, pipe and wire.  We can also supply custom stainless steel hand-rolled bar in rounds, flats, square, hex and custom shapes up to 2 ¼ inch (57.15 mm), as well as in between sizes that are not commercially available.
