Short for hexagonal, hex forms are six sided cuts of material. Hex form is common for load bearing applications and other settings that require high strength and stability.  

Like sheet and flat forms, plate is used in applications that require wide surface area and varying degrees of thickness.  Plate is selected for flexibility and often for finishing purposes.
