Titanium for Medical Applications

Titanium is often used in medical manufacturing for its biocompatibilty and innate ability to join to the human bone. Titanium is ofter used in the manufacture of surgical instruments, titanium rods, pins and titanium plates.

Metals Unlimited North supplies two of the most common types of Titanium used in medicine, 6AL4V and 6AL4V ELI which are also knows as Gr. 5 and Gr. 23. These alloys are made of 6% Aluminum and 4% Vandium, which makes them appropriate for use in the manufacture of medical equipment.

Medical Grade Titanium is:
  • Durable
  • Strong
  • Resistant to corrosion
  • Non-toxic
  • Biocompatible

Medical Grade Titanium is often used by doctors, surgeons and manufacturers for:
  • Bone / Joint Replacements
  • Dental Implants
  • Maxillo and Cranial Repair
  • Pacemaker Components
  • External Prostheses
As compared to Stainless Steels, Titanium has a much higher strength to weight ratio. The wide variety of Titanium Alloys available from Metals Unlimited North means manufactures can choose the exact level of tensile strength and ductility that fits the particular application.
