Short for hexagonal, hex forms are six sided cuts of material. Hex form is common for load bearing applications and other settings that require high strength and stability.  

Defined by flat, rectangular sides, metal bar is cast in a horizontal form for easy handling and processing. Bar form is common for materials being shaped into bricks or blocks.
